General

The horse must possess one spot above a level line, midway between the center of the knee and the floor of the chest and midway between the point of the hock and the center point of the stifle. If a horse has only a high stocking or an extended face marking then it must also exhibit a spot of 2 inches in diameter or more or the tail must exhibit contrasting color and skin 2 inches or more. Facial markings do not count. The horse must exhibit a saddle gait and the application must bear the signature of a SSHBEA licensed inspector.

Inspection Requirements

All horses are required to be inspected by a SSHBEA Inspector. A list of inspectors for a given area is enclosed with the registration information packets obtained from the SSHBEA. Another option is to call the SSHBEA office and request a list of licensed inspectors. The list is also available online at SSHBEA Licensed Inspectors (Listed By State). If there is not an inspector in your area, you have the option of taking a video of your horse in motion and submit that video to the SSHBEA Office along with your paperwork. This video will be viewed and returned to you.

When a horse is being registered and there is cross breeding, the SSHBEA requires that a copy of the other breeds papers and a video must be sent in on the horse you are registering, whether or not the registration papers are signed by a licensed inspector. An example of some of the other breeds: American Saddlebred, Quarter horse, Arabians, Pintos, etc.
