Minutes of
At
Mack all committee chairpersons to turn in a list of their committee
members to the office and Janice Prince would mail to the board members before
the next meeting. Mack reported
Travis Kelley had accepted the position of chairman of the Hearing Committee.
Kim McMahan made the motion to approve Travis, Roy Franklin seconded,
motion passed.
After lengthy discussion and due to the fact that our fall show date is
the same week as the Racking Horse show, the International and our 1st
Saturday night is the last Saturday night of the other spotted association’s
fall show, Sis Osborne made the motion to change our fall show to the original
date ending the 1st Saturday night in October.
Benny Lance seconded, motion passed with 11 yes votes and 3 no votes.
Roy Franklin made a motion to allow phone polls of the SSHBEA Board of
Directors, but no business can be transacted by the poll and every member must
be contacted. Motion rescinded.
Ronnie Sapp made the motion to allow the poll, but business can only be
transacted at a board meeting or special called meeting, Don Woodson seconded,
motion passed.
In regard to the business of the special called board meeting last week a
letter had been sent and they had extended the deadline date from the 17th
to the 24th. The
lobbyist, Mr. Hawk had asked that we be able to continue with the Operating Plan
’09 because it had already been signed.
Mack turned the floor over to Aaron Crafton.
The financial committee had been working on the budget.
Aaron asked the board to think about changing the fall show to 6 nights
instead of 8 – this would save us approximately $11,000 (this saving estimate
includes only using 3 judges instead of 5).
Other suggestions made by the financial committee were, raise the sponsor
fee of the belt buckles to $100, raise the entry fees 25%, cut the show payback
in half (on spring & fall shows & sport horse events).
Another suggestion was to not sell corporate sponsors (it appears we are
losing money on them). A thought was
to sell class sponsors or banner sponsors like Sport Horse does.
Bob Wright made the motion to use only 1 judge at the spring show, motion
died due to lack of a second. Freda
Bullard made the motion to use 2 judges and have them draw for classes and use 1
SSHBEA judge and 1 commission judge. Sis
Osborne seconded, motion passed. Linda
Bedwell made the motion to change the spring show to 2 nights instead of 3.
Sis Osborne seconded, motion passed.
A suggestion was made to sell complete night ribbon sponsors.
A suggestion was made if a judge does something wrong the 1st
night we need to replace him and inform the judges that this would happen.
