Minutes of April 14, 2008 SSHBEA Board of Directors

 

            At 7:00PM on April 14, 2008, Mack Motes called the SSHBEA Board of Directors meeting to order and asked Janice Higgins to call the roll.  All were present except Tamara Sullivan, Doug Herring, Shane Hartwig & Dickie Gardner who had all notified the office of their absence.  Mack then asked Janice to read the minutes of the last minutes.  She did so and Sis Osborne made the motion to approve them as read, Ronnie Sapp seconded, motion passed.  Mack reported that Tamara Sullivan had resigned from the board and that Jennifer Broadhurst was next in line from the January election to replace her.  Ronnie Sapp made the motion to approve Jennifer, Bob Wright seconded, motion passed. 

 

            We had the request from the Tennessee 4-H for our usual $1,000 sponsor.  After discussion Aaron Crafton made the motion to give the $1,000 to the 4-H.  Freda Bullard seconded, motion passed.  Mack will talk to Doyle Meadows about the solid horses showing in the spotted classes. 

 

            Mack reported the USDA would begin using the sniffer around the 1st of May and the penalty structure would be out about the same time. 

 

            Mack had contacted the Kabota dealer and they would sell us one for $9,640.  He asked if we wanted to do the Kabota fund raiser again.  Kim McMahan reported that it takes a lot of support to pull it off.  It was decided to table the idea for the present. 

 

            Aaron Crafton reported he and his financial committee had reworked the projected budget and it is still in the negative.  We still need to make cuts in our spending.  Several things were discussed as savings possibilities and new sales ideas.  Roy Franklin suggested after the spring show to look at the finances, send a request to the membership to make a donation and if we don’t get what we need then other cuts to the fall show will have to made, putting the burden on the membership.  Again the proposed budget is tabled. 

 

            Roy Franklin made a motion to use a cheaper grade of paper for the spring show program.  Ronnie Sapp seconded, motion passed. 

 

            Robert Morgan asked for his Program Committee to be approved.  Members are Bob Wright, Brian Wainwright, Lynn Dropka, Jamie Walls, Deedy Decker, Larry Stigers, Doug Herring.   Roy Franklin made the motion to approve this committee, Sis Osborne seconded, motion passed.

 

                Peggy Moore was present to talk about the 2009 Annual Meeting and asked approval to add Aaron Crafton and Tiffany Hartwig to the Annual Meeting Committee.  No objections.  Peggy reported there is a new hotel being built in Murfreesboro , the Embassy Suites, and it is to be open by November of this year and will be big enough to handle our group but the cost will be more.  The committee had talked to the Cool Springs Marriott again – the only date available is Jan. 23 & 24. 

 

            Jimmy Taylor, chairman of the judges committee, presented the following commission judges for approval pending the return of their signed SSHBEA Judges contract.  Sid Baker, Gerald Campbell, Billy White, Richard Walls, Doug McGovern, Bill Strickland, Grandy Tuck, Holly Sanders, Randell Phillips, Glenn Levy, Jennifer B. Davis, Benny Johnson, Linda McCarley, Eddie Davis, Mike Civils & Terry Stone.  Sis Osborne made the motion to approve them with the return of their signed contract, Freda Bullard seconded, motion passed.  Jimmy Taylor asked could the committee request that a judge be replaced at the spring show if they saw the need.

 

            Gordon Hirschi, Chairman of the Out of State committee, reported he is checking into setting up an Outreach Program for SSHBEA.   He has reports from a Utah person and a Tennessee person that have participated in another breed endurance ride with their spotted saddle horse and placed in the top 10% with little conditioning.  He will have more info at the next meeting. 

 

            Our open books issue is to expire May 1.  Bob Wright made the motion to close the books back at that time.  After discussion, Bob rescinded his motion.  Roy Franklin made the motion to leave the books open, but re-implement our old fee structure back into place beginning May 1.  Freda Bullard seconded, motion passed. 

 

            The Leigh Ann’s Horses for Attachment show had requested waiver of their affiliation fee this year, Ronnie Sapp made the motion to do this, Kim McMahan seconded, motion passed.

 

            Cannon County Walking Horse Association is having a ride this Saturday at the campgrounds in Woodbury.  Sis Osborne reported there is a ride at her son’s house on May 18, she will have more info at the next meeting. 

 

            Linda Bedwell, chairperson of the Leadline Committee, presented a set of new rules they recommend to be implemented for that class.  (see attached).  Linda Bedwell made the motion to approve this set of rules, with changes to K & L, Ronnie Sapp seconded, motion passed. 

 

             Freda Bullard made the motion to add the classes back and go back to 3 days on the spring show.  Motion dies due to lack of a second. 

 

            Debbie Smothers horse, Domino Dolly, will go to the Kentucky Horse Park , May 1st for the summer to represent SSHBEA. 

 

            Sis Osborne made the motion to approve the committees submitted to the office as of tonight, Don Woodson seconded, motion passed. 

 

            Sis Osborne made the motion to adjourn, Ronnie Sapp seconded, motion passed.
