Minutes of the January 9, 2009 SSHBEA Board of Directors Meeting

Mack Motes called the January 9, 2009 SSHBEA Board of Directors meeting to order and asked Janice Higgins to call the roll.  All were present except Aaron Crafton and Ronnie Sapp who had both notified the office of their absence.

Mack reported the Trail Riders Program had 10 states represented for 2008.  He reminded us the majority of our registered horses do not show – they mainly are trail ridden.  Sis Osborne suggested adding a category on how many organized trail ride the horse/person attends per year.   Sis also suggested submitting info to all local area papers on trail rides in that area.

Mack did not go to the USDA meeting in Washington last month due to the weather.  A few things that came out of the meeting were:  Horses will have to be presented for inspection without saddles.  Any horse caught with a false bottom in the foot is going to be considered pressure shod or 2 foot sore.  They will check our horses and dig in the foot and if it’s red or bloodshot that will be written up.  All these items will be discussed again at the meeting at the end of March.  If and exhibitor intimidates or harasses any of the USDA vets in any way they will be charged and the penalty will be a $5,000 fine and no more than 3 years in the pen.

Gordon Hirschi reported he will be representing SSHBEA at the Back Country Horseman Expo next week in Utah .  Also, there is a group in Idaho , Washington and Oregon that will be doing a Mountain Trail Challenge and they have asked him to come and participate in that.   Mr. Hirschi  has a presentation to make on conference calling for the out of state board of directors to be able to call in and be a part of the meetings if they were not able to attend in person.  Mack said the only problem with the conference calling is you cannot do business concerning the welfare or future of the association.

Mr. Hirschi also has an Outreach Open Incentive Program to introduce.  This to honor registered SSHBEA horses and exhibitors that excel in national all breed events including competitions hosted by national organizations in Dressage, Endurance, Driving, Working Cow Horse, Eventing, Open shows, etc.,

Sis Osborne made the motion to adjourn, motion seconded and passed.
