Minutes of 5/11/09 SSHBEA Board of Directors Meeting

At 7:03PM on May 11, 2009 , Mack Motes called the SSHBEA Board of Directors meeting to order and asked Janice Higgins to call the roll.  All were present except Roy Franklin, Cindy Haley, Ronnie Sapp, Shane Hartwig & Sis Osborne who had all notified the office of their absence.  Gordon Hirschi is attending the meeting by conference call.  Janice then read the minutes of the last meeting and Holly Sanders made the motion to approve them as read, Freda Bullard seconded, motion passed.

Mack asked if the Spring Show ringmasters were paid/given anything.  They were not, but would be given something, maybe an SSHBEA denim shirt.

Mack reported he will be involved in a conference call tomorrow with all the HIO’s.  There had been a request for the past couple of years for any HIO violator to be suspended from the show grounds.  Mack had told them that SSHBEA might consider suspending someone that had been found guilty by the SSHBEA hearing committee of a 2 foot sore violation.    After discussion this was the consensus of the whole board and Mack would pass this along to the group tomorrow.  This would not go into effect in 2010.  We had a letter from PWHAT thanking us for being against the sore horse.  Other discussion scheduled for the call tomorrow is, increasing the suspension from 2 years to 5 years for pressure shoeing.  On the scar rule,  presentation of:  1st offense being $100, 2nd offense being $200, 3rd offense being $300 and 4th offense being 1 month suspension, would be made.

Danny Davis was present for the meeting. He presented 2 judges applicants for approval, Sid Baker and Rodney Slagle.  Freda Bullard made the motion to approve them, Bob Wright seconded, motion passed.  And the judges committee had discussed the issue of a judge for a night time show being on the same grounds for a day time show/event/sale.  The explanation would be in the interpretation of the rule.  The day time event is a completely different venue.  The judge being on the grounds 30 minutes before show time would only apply to the show he/she is judging (night time show) and the starting time of it.

Mack then turned the floor over to Mr. Herring for the ideas/recommendations from the Membership committee.  First they recommended that the SSHBEA dues increase & add an Associate membership classification for businesses or those who would like to be members but don’t have a horse registered.  They suggested trying to bring back former members.  The committee recommends increasing the dues to $60 for 18 & over with an automatic Amateur status (provided member is not a trainer), introduction to the SSHBEA Outreach Open Incentive Program Mr. Hirschi has introduced to SSHBEA and all same benefits now in place.  The Associate membership fee would be $40 and they would receive the magazine and a pass to the spring & fall shows.  Mr. Herring asked Maude Hopkins to present the next recommendation.  Maude reported they had discussed having a “barn raising” except it would be a ring or arena raising.  They would ask for donations of lumber, ground work, labor, etc.  Then if we were able to get the arena built we could sell box seats, rent it out for parties & other shows to generate income.  It would have its own concession facility.  The last recommendation from the membership committee is the “25th SSHBEA Anniversary Olympic Games” (see attached for details).  Don Woodson made the motion to adopt Mr. Herring’s idea with some slight modifications to the games – modifications to be made by the committee.  Dickie Gardner seconded, motion passed.  Discussion went back to the memberships.  A suggestion was made to have a family membership with a slight cut in cost as compared to the adult membership fee.  We would vote on this at the next meeting.  Benny Lance & Mack would bring back some figures concerning the building of the arena.   An entire package including the modification/changes and the projected logo will be sent to the board before the next meeting for us to be able to study before hand.

Aaron Crafton reported we are back in the black with our finances.  Benny Lance made the motion to approve the financial report, Bob Wright seconded, motion passed.

The Illinois SSH club is requesting to have their judge approved as a guest judge – Linda Wray – a TWH judge.  Freda Bullard made the motion to approve her, Bob Wright seconded, motion passed.

Freda Bullard made the motion to waive the affiliation fees for the LAHA show, Dickie Gardner seconded, motion passed.

Don Woodson, Chairman of the Hearing committee asked to have his committee members approved.  Roy Franklin-CoChair, Linda Bedwell, Dickie Gardner, Chad Hillis, Doug Herring, Randy Drinkard and alternates, Janice Higgins & Michelle Bailey.  Holly Sanders made the motion to approve this committee, Freda Bullard seconded, motion passed.

Freda Bullard made the motion to adjourn, Benny Lance seconded, motion passed.
