of June 8, 2009 SSHBEA Board of Directors Meeting
At 7:00PM on June 8, 2009, Mack Motes
called the SSHBEA Board of Directors meeting to order and asked Janice Higgins
to call the roll. All were present
for the meeting except Cindy Haley, Ronnie Sapp, Freda Bullard, Sis Osborne and
Benny Lance who had all notified the office of their absence.
Janice then read the minutes of the last meeting and Holly Sanders made
the motion to approve them as read, Michelle Bailey seconded, motion passed.
Mack Motes is to attend a USDA meeting in Nashville tomorrow, June 9.
The discussion tomorrow will be on changes to the Operating Plan and
SSHBEA would like to stay in the plan if we can.
Mack is to tell them we have reservations about them using the hoof
testers.
Lori Dunivan was present to report from the Youth Council Show.
They had 117 entries, the concession and entries made approximately $3000
and their sponsors amounted to about $6300.
They are planning a Fun Day on Saturday of the Mid Season show – more
details later.
Aaron Crafton next presented the Financial Report.
The Spring Show made about $5000. Entries
were down by 48. A $700 outstanding
debt was collected during the show. Dickie
Gardner made a motion to approve the report, Maude Hopkins seconded, motion
passed.
Roy Franklin reported a Hearing was held on May 29th and asked
for the members present to be approved. They
were Roy Franklin, Janice Higgins, Doug Herring, Randy Drinkard, Chad Hillis,
Linda Bedwell and Danny Davis. Roy
made the motion to approve these members, Holly Sanders seconded, motion passed.
Minutes of the hearing were passed out.
The unanimous decision of the committee was that charges against Richard
Wall and Gerald Campbell were unfounded to support any kind of rule violation.
Danny Davis, Chairman of the judges committee, requested the approval of
Larry Appleton Jr. as an Regular/AA judge and Phil Dunivan as a Master judge.
Maude Hopkins made the motion to approve them, Holly Sanders seconded,
motion passed. The judges committee
asked that when the board draws for judges for the shows from now on, they have
the SSH and the TWH judges in separate hats and alternate drawing beginning with
the SSHBEA judges and for the fall show or any show with 5 judges, have 3 SSHBEA
judges and 2 TWH judges. Roy
Franklin made the motion to this effect, Kim McMahan seconded, motion passed.
Mack then turned the meeting over to Mr. Herring for the latest update on
the 25th Anniversary Olympic Games.
First addressed was the arena. Maude
Hopkins made a motion to build an Arena Complex on the SSHBEA Headquarters
property to include bath room facilities, concession stand, warm-up area and
other facilities that may be required in the future with construction to be
carried out in phases as funding and free material, free labor and free
equipment become available from members and other stakeholders in the spotted
saddle horse industry and further to obtain the necessary permits from the
zoning commission of Bedford County before construction begins.
Bob Wright seconded, motion passed. Mr.
Herring presented 2 sample logos for consideration to be used on the information
and promotional items about the Games. Linda
Bedwell made the motion to approve both with improvements to be made, Maude
Hopkins seconded, motion passed. Mr.
Herring presented the committee’s recommendations of changes of membership
classes, dues structure and benefit changes – see attached with changes.
Linda Bedwell made the motion to increase the adult membership fee to
$50, Aaron Crafton seconded, motion
passed with 1 no vote – Holly Sanders. Linda
Bedwell made the motion to make the family membership fee $80, Shane Hartwig
seconded, motion passed. Bob Wright
made the motion to make the associate membership fee $40, Linda Bedwell
seconded, motion passed.
Holly Sanders made the motion to put something on our website about the
“Horse Slaughter Bill” urging people to notify their congressmen and
representatives to vote to reinstate this bill.
Maude Hopkins seconded, motion passed.
Janice Higgins is to do this.
Kim McMahan reported there will be a Pot Luck/Auction at the office June
27 for the purpose of a fundraiser for the Mid Season show.
Linda Bedwell asked for the affiliation fee to be waived for the July 11,
Reach show in Woodbury. Aaron
Crafton made the motion, Dickie Gardner seconded, motion passed.
Roy Franklin made the motion to adjourn, Kim McMahan seconded, motion
passed.
